SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that a trio of rookie defencemen, in Hayden Clark, Ethan Lavallee and Steve Bellini of the Soo Eagles, Rayside-Balfour Canadians and Soo Thunderbirds respectively have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Dec. 3.

HAYDEN CLARK, (D) SOO EAGLES – Joining the rest of his Eagles’ teammates on a three-game road trip, the Sault Ste. Marie blueliner had points in all of them helping his team skate to a trio of victories.

Clark began doling out two assists, including one on the game-winner, as the Soo rallied to defeat Hearst Thursday.

Friday night in Cochrane saw the 17-year-old Wasco, Ill., product notch the decider in double overtime in another comeback triumph.

He then capped off his performance with a helper as the Eagles defeated Timmins Saturday.

With points in three straight as well as in five of his past six outings and seven of nine, Clark has moved up into a tie for ninth in league rookie scoring among D-men with his two tallies and 11 assists.

ETHAN LAVALLEE, (D) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – The17-year-old native of Skead, Ont., collected three points last week while helping bolster Rayside-Balfour’s back-end in a pair of wins.

Lavallee started off by helping set-up two tallies that featured one on the game-winner as the Canadians clipped the Espanola Express Thursday.

He then notched a goal in his club’s home victory over Blind River Sunday night at Chelmsford Arena.

Lavallee presently paces all NOJHL rookie defencemen in offensive production with 22 points in just 25 match-ups as he has notched six markers while setting up 16 others.

STEVE BELLINI, (D) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Another league D-man who has impressed in his first season in the NOJHL has been Bellini.

In aiding the Thunderbirds’ efforts in taking both contests they played in over the weekend, the 17-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product picked up three assists in decisions over Blind River and Espanola as his club also extended an active winning streak to six in succession.

Bellini also has a couple of streaks on his own intact as he’s collected assists and points in each of his past five outings.

His 15 assists overall tie him for the second-most among NOJHL rookie rearguards entering play this week.
