NOJHL names its Eastlink 3 Stars of the week
Beavers’ Peck; Voodoos’ Bowman; Eagles’ Saxton tabbed for weekly honours

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Blind River Beavers defenceman Cole Peck along with forwards Parker Bowman of the Powassan Voodoos and Jake Saxton of the Soo Eagles have been selected as its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending March 19.

COLE PECK, (D) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – In the first three games in Blind River’s West Division semifinal match-up with the Rayside-Balfour Canadians, the 20-year-old blueliner from Ottawa had points in each of them helping the Beavers take a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-seven affair.

Peck began by providing a pair of assists in a 6-2 Game 1 triumph at home and followed that up by tallying twice and setting up another as Blind River came away victorious in Game 2 against the Canadians.

He then added an assist in the Game 3 overtime setback at Chelmsford Arena.

Named to the NOJHL’s CCM Hockey second all-star team on defence this season, Peck is currently tied for the league lead in playoff points, among rearguards, with six on his two goals and four helpers.

PARKER BOWMAN, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Bowman produced multi-point nights in each of Powassan’s two triumphs over Kirkland Lake over the weekend to begin their East Division semifinal series.

The 17-year-old, who hails from Bracebridge, Ont., supplied two goals, including the game-winner, and also added an assist as the Voodoos soared to a 5-1 victory over the Gold Miners in Game 1 Friday.

Earning the league’s top defensive forward honour for his efforts in the regular season, Bowman continued to chip in offensively by setting up two other markers Sunday as Powassan skated to a 5-2 triumph at the Sportsplex.

He presently paces all NOJHL rookies in postseason scoring with his five points.

JAKE SAXTON, (F) SOO EAGLES  The league’s most improved player award recipient for 2016-17 continued his solid season last week by notching goals in all three Eagles’ victories last week.

Saxton began by scoring once in Sault Ste. Marie’s overtime win over Elliot Lake in their third and deciding West quarter-final match-up.

He then added another marker and set-up one more as the Eagles upended the Soo Thunderbirds in double OT in the opener of that best-of-seven series.

The Interlochen, Mich., native, who turned 20 earlier the month, then tacked on another tally and assisted on the game-winner as the Eagles knocked off the T-Birds in Game 2 Saturday.

Entering Game 3 of their divisional semifinal against the rival Thunderbirds at Pullar Stadium Wednesday, Saxton shares fifth spot in league playoff scoring with six points.
