NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Kirkland Lake Gold Miners forward Tyler Fyfe, Soo Eagles goaltender Kade Phipps and Cochrane Crunch forward Konnar Dechaine  have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Nov. 20.

TYLER FYFE, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – In three games during the week that was, the 19-year-old native of Cloverdale, B.C., amassed multiple points in each of them helping the Gold Miners secure four points in the NOJHL standings.

Fyfe began by scoring once and setting up another in a win at French River Thursday.

Friday evening saw him tally twice and dish out an assist as Kirkland Lake topped Iroquois Falls on home ice.

He then finished up with another marker and two helpers in a late road setback vs. the Eskis.

Currently riding a five-game point streak as well as getting on the scoresheet in 10 of his past 11 outings, Fyfe sits second on the Gold Miners in offensive production with 29 points, including a dozen goals.

KADE PHIPPS, (G) SOO EAGLES – Much of the Eagles resurgence can be attributed to the play of Phipps.

Hailing from Perrysburg, Ohio, Phipps added two more triumphs to his win total over the weekend.

In all he made 60 saves on 65 shots backstopping Sault Ste. Marie to victories over two of the hottest teams in the league with decisions over Rayside-Balfour Friday and at Blind River Sunday where he helped put an end to the Beavers’ seven-game winning streak.

Since joining the Eagles a month ago, the 18-year-old Phipps has won his last four starts and posted an overall record of 7-2-0-0 with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

KONNAR DECHAINE, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – Suiting up in four road games last week, Dechaine registered points in each of them reaching double digits in total.

The 20-year-old Lac La Biche, Alta., product started off with an assist in a setback against red-hot Powassan last Monday.

Heading into Espanola Friday Dechaine had his second hat trick of the season along with a helper in a Cochrane win.

Saturday saw him tack on two more markers, including the game-winner, and dole out a pair of assists to aid his team’s efforts in handing the Soo Eagles their first home loss in nine games.

He then wrapped up play with a shorthanded goal in a setback against the Soo Thunderbirds Sunday afternoon.

Dechaine enters a Wednesday contest at Timmins third on the Crunch in scoring with 31 points on 20 tallies and 11 assists.

He also boasts a team-high four game-winning goals, which ties him for the fourth most in the league.
