SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – An Evan Ketner shorthanded goal in the first period proved to be the game-winner as the Soo Eagles defeated the Blind River Beavers 4-1 Friday in a tightly-contested Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Pullar Stadium.
It was the Eagles who took control early getting an even strength effort from Nate Harris at 12:04 followed by Kettner’s man-down effort three and a half minutes later.
The power play allowed Blind River to pull within one with 2:35 to go in the second as Andrew Trowbridge notched his first of the season with assists going to Joseph Eben and Brendan MacKenzie.
Sault Ste. Marie got some insurance from Jake Palmerio midway through the third then the iced it with just over a half minute remaining on an empty netter supplied by Dayton Honkanen.
Jack Deines made 24 saves to register his first NOJHL victory while Martin Miloslavich faced 37 shots in the loss for Blind River.
