SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – The Soo Thunderbirds scored three times in the second period on their way to a 4-2 win over the Soo Eagles at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Friday night.

The win gave the Thunderbirds a sweep of the home-and-home series this week between the Twin Soo’s, as the TBirds edged the Eagles 3-2 at the Pullar Stadium on Wednesday.

Late in the first period, the Eagles Michael Stazomski kept the puck in at the blueline and fed a quick pass up to Nolan Hendry who fired a quick shot by Kolton Bourret for a 1-0 Eagles lead at 19:17. For Hendry, it was his 16th and 6th goal in his past 5 games for the Eagles.

In the second period, the Thunderbirds battled back.

Daniel Beaupre got the equalizer after a nice quick feed from Kelsey Ouellet at 6:12 which made it 1-1.

The Thunderbirds took their first lead just over two minutes later when Battalion prospect Declan Gallivan made it 2-1. Gallivan took a pass off a draw in Eagles zone and found its way by Eagles goalie Anthony Zolezzi at 8:20.

The TBirds added a late second period goal as Jacob Smith tipped a shot from Jonathan Sonedecker which beat Zolezzi and made it 3-1 at 16:38.

Near the 13-minute mark of the third, Connor Stokes made it 4-1 Thunderbirds as he put home a rebound.

Less than two minutes later, Cooper Fredericks netted his 7th to make it 4-2 at 14:44.

With the home win the Thunderbirds improve to 31-13-4-1 while the Eagles drop to 29-19-1-2.
