SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Soo Thunderbirds rallied for a second straight night vs. the rival Soo Eagles as they pulled out another victory Saturday, a 4-2 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League triumph at John Rhodes Community Centre.
Special teams allowed the visiting Eagles to open the night’s scoring as Nick Techel notched his fifth goal of the campaign during a man advantage opportunity at 1:55.
After coming back for a road win Friday against the Eagles, the Thunderbirds countered with the equalizer Saturday with a power play marker of their own compliments of Noah Solinger at 11:12 as he extended a mini point streak to three in the process.
Kobe Keller’s fifth put the Eagles back in front at 16:03 of the second as the visitors took a 2-1 cushion into the third.
In the final frame it was Bradon Caruso who started the rally for the Thunderbirds with 9:08 left in regulation.
Then shorthanded, the home side got the game-winner at 15:05 off the stick of Camaryn Baber as his initial league tally proved to be the difference maker.
Caruso then finished off the comeback with a late empty netter to round out the night’s scoring as he finished off a career-high three-point night.
Eric Schuch made 26 stops to post the win for the Thunderbirds while Shane Brancato made 25 saves in defeat for the Eagles.
