SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Striking twice in the final two minutes of regulation, the Soo Eagles pulled out a dramatic 3-2 win over the Powassan Voodoos Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Pullar Stadium.

Powassan picked up the lone tally of the first period, 16 minutes in, as Caden Dubreuil pressured a turnover in the Sault Ste. Marie end, which led to him wiring a blocker-side wrist shot from the slot past Eagles’ netminder Mason Burkes.

The second stanza saw the clubs trade goals to give the Voodoos a 2-1 lead after two.

After Alex Povorozniouk tied it for the Soo by roofing a shot off the post and in from just inside the blueline, Powassan’s Marcus Krats drove down the slot on a man advantage and sent a shot through a screen to put the visitors back in front.

An injury to Burkes late in the second saw Jace Knoerle enter in relief for the Soo.

Heading to the third, the Eagles used some late-game heroics to pull out the victory.

Tyler Fortson ran a point streak to eight at 18:22 as he scored for the Eagles with Burkes out for an extra attacker.

The Soo then completed the comeback on the next shift as Povorozniouk took a spinning pass from Cooper Fredericks and whipped in the game-winner past Powassan’s Tyson Wilcox.

A solid forecheck from there helped secure the home ice triumph as the Eagles improved to 11-6-0-1 overall.

With the late loss, the Voodoos fell to 8-7-0-2.
