Eagles soar over Rapids

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Bradley Hofelich scored three times and assisted on another while Roman Gaudet picked up a pair and added two helpers to help the Soo Eagles soar over the French River Rapids 11-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Pullar Stadium.

French River did get off to a good start as they took an early lead on a power play goal thanks to Jordan Ribbink’s first NOJHL tally four minutes into the contest.

However Sault Ste. Marie stormed back with five unanswered efforts later in the frame to go up 5-1 after one.

Chris Lutz, Gaudet and Adam Ostrowski connected at even strength while Jacob Palmerio and William Casey both struck shorthanded.

The Eagles got two more in the middle session on a pair of Hofelich efforts.

The Soo then finished off the one-sided decision with four more tallies in the third with Jake Saxton, Palmerio, Gaudet and Hofelich serving as the marksmen.

Brent Jones supplied three assists for the Eagles on the night.

Shots on net favoured the Soo by a 69-17 margin with Justyn Gillis picking up the win and Simon Wood the defeat.
