ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Soo Eagles stormed back from a two-goal deficit in the third period by striking for three unanswered tallies to pull out a 5-4 come from behind victory over the Elliot Lake Red Wings in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Saturday at Centennial Arena.

Sault Ste. Marie opened the scoring as Marc LaFrance darted down the left wing then moved to the middle and snapped a shot past Elliot Lake starter Colton Donaldson three minutes into the match-up.

The Red Wings did tie it before the first period was complete though as Alex Antoine connected at 12:34 as he was sent in alone on a breakaway and made no mistake as he deked to his left and lifted a backhand over the pad of Eagles’ netminder Gabe Rosek.

Elliot Lake then went in front during the initial shift of the second stanza as Devin Shoreman cut around the net and stuffed the puck in on the short side to make it 2-1.

It was more Red Wings midway through the contest when Ethan Mercer potted his first NOJHL goal as finished some impressive puck movement and was left to slam his chance into the open side from close range.

Answering back late, the Soo’s Chase Tallaire clicked with 17 seconds left in the period as he blasted one from between the hash marks to make it 3-2 after two.

In the third, Brodie Kearns restored the Red Wings’ two-goal cushion at 1:28 off a dump in that eventually saw him wire in a shot from the slot.

However, the Eagles stormed back with their trio tallies to pull out the road victory.

Tallaire began the rally as he knocked in a loose puck laying in the crease off a LaFrance shot that bounced off the top of the net before falling free in front.

The Soo then tied it with 8:04 to go as Tyler Culleton banged in a rebound from the slot.

Completing their comeback, Brian Fiddes got the game-winner with just over two minutes remaining in regulation, on a delayed penalty, off a shot was saved but the rebound came right to him at the side of the net which he quickly banged in to wrap-up the night’s scoring.

Rosek finished with 36 stops to collect the win for the Eagles while the Red Wings’ Donaldson faced 49 shots against in defeat.
