Eagles ease past Rock

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Soo Eagles got a goal and three assists from Bradley Hofelich to help them ease past the Timmins Rock 9-2 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Pullar Stadium.

Sault Ste. Marie started strong in this one grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period of play starting with Jake Saxton early before Chris Murphy collected his 15th midway through the frame.

The two sides then accounted for five markers in the middle session, including three by the Eagles.

Jacob Palmerio started things off before teammate Jake Cimarusti added one on the power play before the stanza was five minutes old.

Jordan Rendle got one back for the Rock on a man advantage, only to see Landon Hubbard come right back for the Eagles.

Timmins’ James Watier pulled visitors to within three at 10:11 to make it 5-2 after 40 minutes.

The Eagles then put the game away in third adding four more to secure the victory.

Hofelich, Murphy, Rhett Rampinelli and Palmerio finished off the one-sided decision with the markers in the final session.

Kade Phipps was called upon to make 22 stops in picking up the win.

Matthew Nixon suffered the loss for Timmins seeing 51 shots in defeat.
