SUDBURY, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos saw Ryan Patrick tally twice in the third period, as part of a three-goal outburst in the session, to lift them to a 5-2 decision over the Soo Eagles Tuesday afternoon at the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
Sault Ste. Marie scored first in the get together as Kenny Belanger Jr., connected for a third straight outing as he collected his fifth marker overall at 11:04.
Getting that back prior to the opening intermission, Powassan drew level courtesy of an Alex Little effort late into a man advantage opportunity.
Heading to the middle session, Nolan Hendry’s initial league marker put the Eagles back on top three minutes in, with assists credited to Jack Paweski and Patrick Dales.
Answering quickly, the Voodoos tied it once again thanks to Mathieu Savignac putting one past Soo starter Reid Ramsay at 4:20.
Knotted at 2-2 into the third period, Powassan took their first lead before the midway point of the frame as Patrick knocked one in off a rush up-ice while in front of the net for the eventual game-winner.
Breaking out of their own zone once again, the Voodoos picked up some insurance when Liam Serviss used the side boards to chip the puck ahead, on a smart play, and went in all alone on a shorthanded breakaway where he made a couple of quick dekes before sliding it through the legs of the Soo goalkeeper with 5:21 to play.
Patrick then capped off the triumph as he launched a long-range effort into an empty net from deep in his own territory to wrap things up offensively.
Getting the win was Daniel Dirracolo, who improved to 3-0 on the season while his club went to 6-3-0-0 overall.
Ramsay suffered the setback for the Eagles who slipped to 4-3-0-0 on the campaign.
