SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The surging Timmins Rock were once again deserving as they collected their 12th Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory in a row Friday by clipping the Soo Eagles 6-2 in an encounter at Pullar Stadium.
Timmins maintained their torrid pace by opening the scoring halfway through the first period when Lucas Lowe burst up the left wing with pace and fired a sharp feed across to Maxfeld Shin, who quickly cranked it past Sault Ste. Marie goalkeeper Jace Knoerle.
The Rock then bagged another late in the frame as a Kimani Eccleston backhand hit off teammate Thomas Beard and skipped into the net.
Action in the middle stanza saw the visitors breakout on an odd-man rush that was finished off by Travis Poan as he pumped in a pass from Victor Hourtouat at 8:38.
Finding the range while up a skater, Alex Povorozniouk put the Soo on the board as he took a cross-ice feed from Liam Watson and whipped it past netminder Ayden Mullen.
Getting that back a couple of shifts later, Beard was credited with one more as a Ben Hugesson attempt from up top hit him and found its way in.
Still pressing, the Rock tacked on another at 14:51 with Shin supplying his second of the evening by lifting in a pass put his way from the end boards by Kaeden McArthur.
Pulling closer in the third, the Eagles’ Colton Huckson kept a play in the Timmins’ end then skated up and fired a pass over to Ilian Danilov, who quickly ripped it by Mullen from the slot.
Timmins eventually confirmed the result with a man advantage effort off the stick McArthur, who roofed one upstairs from left circle to round out the scoring.
With the win the surging Rock raise their record to 18-5-0-1 while in defeat the Eagles fell to 10-17-0-1.
