One-goal games continue at NOJHL Showcase as Wildcats edge Eagles

SUDBURY, Ont. – A Ty Hannaford power play goal 7:45 into the third period was the difference maker as the Elliot Lake Wildcats edged the Soo Eagles 4-3 Wednesday in Game 10 at the NOJHL Showcase at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

Action in the opening 20 minutes saw each side tally twice.

Brett Crook opened the scoring for Elliot Lake via the man advantage at 8:31 in only to see Rhett Rampinelli tie it 73 seconds later.

The Wildcats regained the lead at 11:34 thanks to Dave Elford, but once again the Eagles countered with a Brendan Schultz effort at 15:56.

It also remained tied after 40 minutes as each team scored once in the middle session.

Sault Ste. Marie struck early in the third as Chris Murphy collected his eighth of the season just 43 seconds into the frame.

However Elliot Lake came right back tying it on the next shift on a Brett Jacklin effort to send the clubs into the intermission knotted at 3-3.

It stayed that way until Hannaford’s man advantage marker proved to be the final goal of the game.

Justin Richer turned in a 35-save performance to record the win for the Wildcats while Jack Deines faced 30 attempts in defeat for the Soo.
