NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that a trio of forwards in Blake Vaca (Soo Eagles); Gregory Trudeau-Paquet (Powassan Voodoos) and Derek Seguin (Timmins Rock) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Oct. 6.

BLAKE VACA, (F) SOO EAGLES – Suiting up for Sault Ste. Marie twice last week, Vaca’s contributions helped his side earn a pair of victories.

The Wood Dale, Illinois native, who turns 19 Wednesday, started by scoring in regulation then struck in the shootout as the Eagles edged the rival Soo Thunderbirds.

Vaca then tallied twice and chipped in with an assist as the Soo picked up a road win in Elliot Lake.

GREGORY TRUDEAU-PAQUET, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – The veteran 20-year-old forward scored three times, including a pair on the power play, and set-up another goal to send Powassan to two triumphs and extend the club’s current winning streak to eight in succession.

Trudeau-Paquet, who hails from Sudbury, is presently on an eight-game point streak for Powassan while playing a part offensively in his squad’s winning ways of late.

He has produced at over a point-per-game pace in his NOJHL career, scoring 77 times and helping on 80 others for 157 points in 131 outings.

DEREK SEGUIN, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – Also having a solid week was Timmins captain Seguin.

Starting with a two-tally performance in a shutout victory over Hearst Saturday, the 19-year-old from South Porcupine, Ont., came right back Sunday afternoon and tacked on a couple more markers as the Rock defeated Rayside-Balfour.

With points in four straight, Seguin has now surpassed the century mark in his time in the league as he has notched 54 goals and added 49 assists for 103 points in as many games.
