Late goal lifts Eagles over Canadians

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – A Nate Harris goal with 1:27 remaining proved to be the difference as the Soo Eagles defeated the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 4-3 Sunday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game held at Chelmsford Arena.

The opening 20 minutes saw each side tally twice with Jake Saxton and Roman Gaudet scoring for Sault Ste. Marie while Kyle Fransen and Ryan Erickson found the back of the net for Rayside-Balfour.

The lone marker of the middle frame middle frame came 39 seconds in giving the Eagles the lead thanks to Sam Rappaport’s first NOJHL goal.

Special teams allowed the Canadians to tie the game at 16:54 of the third with Bradley Chenier notching one on the power play.

However before the game could get to overtime, Harris won it to give the visitors the road triumph.

Rappaport also supplied two assists for the Eagles in the triumph.

Jack Hickey made 32 saves to post the win in net for the Soo while Kevin Labelle faced 33 shots in the loss for Rayside-Balfour.
