IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The high-flying Soo Eagles soared to their eight straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Saturday as they downed the Iroquois Falls Storm 4-1 at Jus Jordan Arena.

Neither side would convert offensively in the chippy opening frame as the clubs hit the first intermission still knotted at 0-0.

Breaking the stalemate early in the second period, the Eagles clicked three times before the five-minute mark to gain the edge.

Sault Ste. Marie’s initial tally came via the power play and saw Coby Fox collect the puck at the left point, then cruise into the slot where he fired one upstairs past a screened Connor Dunham-Fox in the Iroquois Falls net at 2:07.

Adding an even strength effort 40 seconds later, Drew Dellies skated out from behind the net and put a feed into the slot that was promptly whipped in by Lucas Caulfield, from between the hash marks.

Not done there, Tyler Fortson made it 3-0 Soo at 4:50 as he tucked in a backhand off a Fox pass, on a delayed penalty.

Getting one back a few minutes later, Tyler Corbett pushed a play ahead off a draw up to Andrew Scott, who shovelled it in front to Patrice Lafontaine who stickhandled in his initial league tally past a sprawled
Anthony Zolezzi in the Eagles’ net.

The Soo put the game away in the third though as Caulfield provided some insurance off some crafty twists and turns in the Iroquois Falls zone before going to net and getting a shot by Dunham-Fox from a sharp angle along the right side of the goal line.

While extending their winning streak, the Soo also raised their overall record to 10-2-0-1.

With the loss, the Storm dropped to 4-9-0-0 on the year.
