SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – An Anden Marceau marker four minutes into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Soo Eagles picked up their fifth victory in a row Friday evening with a narrow 2-1 result over the Iroquois Falls Storm in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League get together at Pullar Stadium.

Sault Ste. Marie also got on the board with a power play tally off the stick of Logan Stawizynski late in the opening frame when he went hard to the net and neatly tucked his chance through the legs of Iroquois Falls netminder Lucas Cardiff-Bilodeau.

Remaining 1-0 Eagles deep into the middle stanza, defenceman Darius Kalantgis drew the Storm level with his first NOJHL goal by keeping a play in the Soo zone at the right point and firing a shot to the net where Eagles’ starter Jace Knoerle could only get a piece of it before it trickled in.

Marceau then supplied the difference maker in the third when he worked a give-and-go down low with Coulson Bell and stuffed it in at the top of the crease.

Iroquois Falls would later get Cardiff-Bilodeau out late in regulation for an extra skater to try and knot the affair, but Knoerle and Eagles’ defensive corps held firm to see them continue their winning ways.

The result also sees the Eagles move to 15-19-1-1 on the season while in the narrow setback, the Storm fell to 10-20-1-2.
