Eagles edge Gold Miners in OT on Clark’s game-winner

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Soo Eagles saw Hayden Clark strike 18 seconds into overtime to lift their side to a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at Pullar Stadium.

Each side would score in the opening 20 minutes with Brendan Blair putting Sault Ste. Marie in front before Matthew Brassard connected for Kirkland Lake later in the frame.

Both teams tightened up defensively from the goaltenders on out as the final two periods went scoreless to send the contest to extra time.

In OT, Clark connected quickly to give the Eagles the win and pick up the additional point on the night.

Kobe Keller assisted on both Soo markers as he registered his second straight multi-point outing.

Eagles goaltender Joseph Benedetto finished with 31 saves to earn the win while Dawson Rodin was solid in defeat for the Gold Miners as he faced 44 shots in the setback to help his side salvage a point.
