Eagles earn 6-2 win over Rock

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Kellen Tharaldson scored twice and Nick Techel picked up three points to pace the Soo Eagles to a 6-2 win over the Timmins Rock Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Pullar Stadium

Techel extended a point streak to seven by notching the night’s opening marker during an Eagles man advantage at 15:32.

Drawing one of the assists on that play was Christian Bardarson, which helped him secure at least one point in eight straight outings.

Sault Ste. Marie then came right back and added another goal just 21 seconds later on a Jake Lamberty effort.

It was more Eagles early in the second as Bardarson picked up his 11th of the year 71 seconds into the frame.

The Soo offensive outburst continued at 11:28 as Owen Kipke found the back of the net to make it 4-0.

Timmins did get one at 8:19 of the third compliments of Austin Holmes to put an end to Shane Brancato’s shutout bid as the Eagles finally allowed a goal after nearly 114 minutes without doing so.

Using the power play, the Rock got another at 12:12 thanks to Stewart Parnell to pull them to within two.

However, the Soo matched that with an extra man effort courtesy of Tharaldson with 4:31 to go.

He then finished things off with a shorthanded empty netter in the final minute to wrap things up.

Kobe Keller dished out two assists to aid the Soo cause.

Shots on goal on the night favoured the Eagles by a 30-25 margin with Brancato picking up the win.

Eric Jackson started for Timmins and suffered the loss allowing four against on 27 shots while Jordan Yaremchuk handled six of seven in 26 and a half minutes of relief.
