SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – Soo Eagles goaltenders Shane Brancato and Ryan Gilmore combined to stop all 20 shots they faced to help their side shutout the Elliot Lake Wildcats 3-0 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League neutral site meeting at GFL Memorial Gardens.
The Eagles gained the upper hand in the opening frame as they tallied twice on goals from Kyle Portlock and George Orfanos to go up by a pair at 20 minutes.
After a scoreless second stanza, the Eagles put the game away in the third, getting an insurance marker from Logan Eggleston with just over 14 minutes remaining to round out the scoring.
Brancato started for the Michigan Soo and made 12 saves in picking up the win while Gilmore handled all eight attempts he saw in relief.
Elliot Lake netminder Parker Simpson faced 33 shots in defeat for the Wildcats.
