Eagles and Wildcats battle to 2-2 draw

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – A Rogers Powers goal early in the third period helped the Soo Eagles rally to earn a hard-fought double overtime tie with the Elliot Lake Wildcats Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Pullar Stadium.

Elliot Lake picked up the lone tally in the opening period as Liam Blais scored with 4:17 left in the session.

The Wildcats then went up by a pair at 12:59 of the second thanks to Troy Button.

Cole Hepler drew the lone assist on the play to extend a consecutive game point streak to 18 in a row.

The Eagles clawed their way back into the contest at 15:46 of the middle session notched his 11th of the season.

Powers’ second goal of the campaign tied things up at 2-2 with 17:32 to go establishing a score that would remain the same throughout the rest of regulation and a pair of five-minute OT sessions.

Jack Hickey was solid in the Sault Ste. Marie net making 38 stops to help his side earn a point in the standings.

Aaron Mackay saw 30 shots fired his way in the draw for Elliot Lake.
