SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Devon Savignac’s second goal of the game, coming early in the middle stanza, proved to be the game-winner as the Blind River Beavers went on to double up the Soo Eagles 4-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday evening at Pullar Stadium.
Just past the six-minute mark of the contest, Blind River opened the scoring on Savignac’s initial effort of the evening.
The Beavers then went up by a pair at 11:04 on a David Campbell effort.
Getting one back before the first period was complete, the Eagles cut into the deficit thanks to Praveen Dhaliwal’s first NOJHL goal, which came at 13:09 of the session.
Striking quickly to commence the middle stanza, the visitors added to their lead when Savignac supplied his second of the night and 19th overall.
Moving on to the third, Sault Ste. Marie started a comeback bid four minutes in when Jake Lamberty made it a 3-2 game.
However, Blind River helped secure the road victory in the final minute as Andrew Malek iced it at 19:08 with an empty net effort.
Shots on goal finished up at 38 apiece with Jackson Hjelle getting the win while Shane Brancato suffered the defeat.
